Gran With Infectious Personality Declared Dead By Paramedics But Then Woke Up In Hospital

Gran with 'infectious personality' declared dead by paramedics - but then 'woke up' in hospital

A grandmother declared dead by paramedics after falling ill at home 'miraculously' came back to life on the way to hospital.

Pat Davies, 85, was rushed to Wrexham Maelor Hospital after paramedics were called to her home in Ruabon, Wrexham, at 3pm on Thursday.

They spent half an hour trying to revive her, but were unable to detect any signs of life and pronounced her dead at the scene.

But as she was being taken to the hospital's mortuary, her heart suddenly started beating again and she was revived.

Her granddaughter Hannah Davies, 29, said: "It is a miracle. We can't believe she is alive.

"She has a very infectious personality. She loves life and everybody loves her."

Ms Davies said her grandmother had been taken to hospital by ambulance on Wednesday after suffering from a bout of sickness and diarrhoea.

She was discharged from hospital on Thursday morning, but later that day paramedics were called to her home after she complained of chest pains.

Ms Davies said: "The paramedics worked on her for half an hour and said there was nothing more they could do.

"They said she had passed away and they took her to the hospital mortuary.

"But on the way there her heart started beating again and the paramedics turned the ambulance around and took her back to A&E.

"She is still poorly, but she is alive which is the main thing."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to a patient who had collapsed at an address in Ruabon at 3pm on Thursday, July 12.

"The patient was assessed at the scene by a paramedic and two emergency medical technicians and, despite their best efforts, showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead.

"However, upon arrival at the hospital the patient showed signs of life and was admitted to the care of the hospital team."
