Carlton hold off North in thrilling shootout
Blues survive second-half scare to cling to second spot
Six goals from Charlie Curnow and four from Harry McKay lead Carlton to 23-point win
Carlton have survived a significant scare to hang on to second position on the AFL ladder by winning a shootout with North Melbourne. The Blues led by 45 points at half-time but were outscored 8.2 to 2.4 in the second half as the Kangaroos threatened to cause a major upset.
However, Carlton held on for a 14.10 (94) to 11.9 (75) victory, with Curnow and McKay leading the way for the Blues. McKay kicked four of his goals in the first half, while Curnow added three after the break. Zac Fisher also chipped in with two goals for Carlton.
For North Melbourne, Jared Polec was the leading goalkicker with three, while Luke McDonald and Tarryn Thomas kicked two each. The Kangaroos remain without a win in 2024 after their ill-disciplined 56-point loss.
The Blues will now face Geelong in a top-of-the-table clash next week, while North Melbourne will take on Gold Coast.
