Football chaos as fans spill onto pitch in Argentina's Olympic opener
Wednesday's match against Morocco was briefly delayed
Confusion and drama took over in the dying moments of Argentina's opening match at the Olympic men's football tournament on Wednesday
The Group C clash in Sapporo was paused twice as fans invaded the pitch and a goal-line scramble saw Morocco snatch a late 2-1 victory.
Referee Artur Soares Dias initially halted proceedings for several minutes in the first half when fans ran onto the field. Order was restored and play resumed.
But more chaos ensued in the closing minutes as Morocco were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position. As Achraf Hakimi prepared to take the set piece, fans once again spilled onto the pitch.
The referee led the players off the field and the match was paused for a second time. When play resumed, Hakimi's free kick was headed home by substitute Abdessamad Ezzalzouli to secure Morocco a memorable victory.
Argentina had taken the lead in the first half through Nahuel Bustos, but Mohamed Chibi equalised for Morocco after the break.
The result leaves Morocco top of Group C after the opening round of matches, with Argentina second.
